Ol Istria is the largest olive oil producer in Croatia with 200 ha of olive groves and 65,000 olive trees. Our oil mill processes around 1.2 tons of olive fruit each year.
Their total area is 220 ha, with further planting planned. Especially praiseworthy are the 12 hectares of our ecologic groves.
The groves are planted with indigenous varieties (Istrian Buža and Bjelica) and partly with varieties from northern Italy (Leccino, Pendolino, Ascolana and Picholine). Leccino is the most common variety accounting for approximately 80%, whereas the remaining 10% is composed of Pendolino and 5% of Picholine and Ascolana each.
The indigenous Istrian varieties Buža and Istrian Bjelica have been planted in recent years, and approximately 1,500 trees of Istrian Bjelica have already started giving fruit and producing the best oil.
